Hermetic Qabalah and Tarot - June 15, 2008

At this meeting we will focus on the meaning and attributions of the first Sephirah on the Tree of Life, Kether.

The Tarot cards related to Kether are the four Aces. We will compare the images on the Aces from several Tarot decks that have grown out of the Hermetic tradition such as the Rider-Waite-Smith, The Thoth Tarot, The Golden Dawn Tarot, and others. In addition to the Qabalistic influence of Kether on the four Aces we will look at how astrology, numerology, color symbolism, and alchemy impact the imagery of each card.

Each Ace also corresponds to one of the Four Worlds. We will discuss the Four Worlds and color the first Sephirah, Kether, as it appears in each World. Robert Wang says in The Hermetic Qabalah, “The notion of color is pivotal to the study of Tarot, and painting the Four Worlds in their appropriate colors will provide special insights about the cards.”

Although the Tree of Life will continue to be the focus of study for one meeting each month, people new to Tarot or Qabalah are welcome. Prior handouts will be available.
